I am having a problem copying  files with long names from my server to my workstation via a mapped drive, everytime i try it i get a box pop up that says i have to rename the file to a very short name as long file names are not supported???? does anybody know what this is and how to get round it?
My server is running 2003 advanced server and my workstaion is win 2k service pack 4.
Thanks for any help

Mik:

Is the drive to which you are copying files formatted with FAT or NTFS? (To find out, open My Computer and right-click the drive and select Properties.)

FAT drives do not support long file names, only 8.3 formats. To get around this you will need to rename the file during the copy.

Hope this helps.  8)

If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there
