    Allan,
Ah, I see.  Well, it is a minor pain to boot up and update either one just to run a scan.  Do you see any problems if I have both of them "resident"?  I have Spybot resident and scan with that every week or 2.

    CPU usage.
I think things may have calmed down since I installed Avast and removed Ad Aware.  Previously, at least one AVG file and Ad Aware file were sucking CPU usage.  Now, here is what I see.

I have Gmail open and this page open while looking at the task manager, just so you know.

System Idle Process -- usually around 79-82%, but drops to 60 or 54 momentarily
The following other items run at 1-7% usage, fluctuating every second.
    ClientMgr2.exe
    CM303_STI.EXE
    taskmgr.exe
    firefox.exe
    explorer.exe
    ashWebSv.exe
    services.exe
    csrss.exe

I don't know why explorer is running since I have IE but don't use it.
Firefox.exe is the only one that seems to jump up to as high as 22-23% momentarily even though I'm just sitting there watching the task manager and not doing anything with those 2 things open.

Will do more as I stated earlier.  Will report back.

No ideas about the fan, guys?

I wouldn't have more than one anti-spyware and one antivirus resident at any time. And again, I'd dump spybot.

      Allan,
You're the first person to ever say that I should dump Spybot.  I'm very surprised.  I take it you think Malwarebytes is a better resident program?

      Broni,
Did what you recommended.  Here's the Procexp.txt file.  Thanks in advance for any analysis.

Spybot and AdAware are now considered "old school". The currently acknowledged best of breed are MalwareBytes & Super AntiSpyware

There is definitely something abnormal here.
You have several processes, which normally don't use any CPU cycles, or their usage is close to zero.

      To start with...

      Start new topic here: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/board,7.0.html
Do NOT post any logs in THIS thread.

My next guesses, would be some serious system files corruption, or some hardware problem (HD, RAM).

      I'd also suggest...

      Download, and install SpeedFan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php
      Post your computer temperatures:

Provide processor info (hold Windows logo key, and hit Pause/Break key to find out).

        Processor info:

        Intel
        Pentium 4 CPU  1.5 GHz
        1.5 GHz   768 MB RAM

Speed Fan has already been installed.  It reads as follows in the uppermost box:
        Found Toshiba MK4018GAS (40.0 GB)
        Found ACPI temp 25.8C
        End of detection

There is nothing entered in the box under that on the left  (no RPM, that is)
On the right all that is there is only a down arrow and "temp1  26C"

On SpeedFan, it says the CPU usage fluctuates between about 12 and 49.  All I have on at the time is Speed Fan and the Firefox window with Computer Hope Forum and Gmail.

Thanks for the updated info on Spybot and AdAware.  Will remove Spybot ASAP.

I don't know why explorer is running since I have IE but don't use it.

"explorer" is the windows shell; it creates the desktop and start menu, as well as the windows for viewing disk contents (My Computer), nothing to worry about, in most cases.

          Broni,
Thanks for the advice.  Sorry for the delay.

I installed that program.  There wasn't much in the way of data for the sensor:

          Sensor type: ACPI
          CPU temperature:  52C   127F

SpeedFan says the same (53 C).  It also said CPU usage was holding at 100%, which was weird since I only had SpeedFan and this site open.  I confirmed with Task Manager, and noticed it was between 30% and 100% (rechecking SpeedFan showed this fluctuation, too).  Something called cfp.exe was sucking about 80% CPU usage.  Never saw that file before.

          Advice?

cfp.exe is a Comodo file...the cpu usage may be Comodo running updates.
