Help Creating a Batch File to Set Clock Back 5 minutes
    « on: September 11, 2009, 11:29:19 AM »
Please, i need help creating a batch file that will set the time on my computer clock back 5 minutes.

The clocks on all the computers in my lab are always 5 minutes too fast.

Why don't you find out why they are all fast? Are they getting network time from a server?

I don't have privileges to change the clock manually.
I have to do it with a batch file.
I had it before, where the batch file set the clock back 5 minutes, but I lost that file...and I can't find it.  And I forgot how to do it.

Please, how do you set the time back 5 minutes using a batch file?
      I'm desperate for an answer.

There is no need to adjust the clocks with a batch  file.

The professional sync solutions work just fine.  The system administrator at your company takes care of it.  The clocks in the lab are not fast.

You are trying to cause problems.  I suspect security has you blocked.

I'm a teacher, and yes, the clocks are 5 minutes fast on all the computers, and no the sys admin has not taken care of it.
But a batch file will take care of it if someone will tell me how to do it.  I'm not trying to cause problems, I just want the clocks to be on time so all my students won't start logging out 5 minutes fast and start talking.
It is very difficult being a teacher these days in a public school.  They cut back on the tech guys and hired a guy who is part time, and he is very slow to fix problems.  luckily I know a little something about computers and could get a batch file to run on all of them.  I just need to know how to set the clocks back 5 minutes.

When I double click on the clock it says "access denied".

Yet another reason to not take this tale of woe seriously...

the proper way to solve this. let your boss know about the situation. that if its 5 minutes slow, it will affect the work you are doing... (or does it?)

I call "prank" on this. Either that, or "lousy teacher". If the kids all log off 5 minutes too soon, inform them at the start of the lesson that pending adjustment, the clocks on their workstations are to be disregarded, and log off time is when teacher says it is. That's not rocket science.

If all of the clocks are exactly 5 minutes fast, (why?) then in a room full of locked down school computers, you want someone who knows the BIOS password going around to each machine with an accurate watch, or else set the machines to sync from the internet or a server. A batch file is the very last thing you want.

This looks like one of those questions that we get where the poster obviously thinks that computer help forums are run, and contributed to, by clueless 13 year old nerds who have no knowledge of the real world outside the case of a PC.

That was very unkind to call him a 13 year old nerd.

Maybe he is a 14 year old nerd!
