First off I have a have a Windows XP Professional 2002 with Service Pack 3 and with a Conexant rd01-d850 sound card.

Since I've gotten my computer the sound on it has been just fine, till one time i decided to reformat it, after words the sound stopped working soon after i ended up reformatting again, the sound still didn't work, so i checked and i couldn't find that a had a sound driver at all, i tried going to the Conexant official website and tried searching for the correct driver for my card, but there was no luck in that, i downloaded Realtek High Definition Audio driver but it did nothing for me, i tried updating all my drivers through device manager but that didn't help either. I followed many Microsoft official instruction online step bye step but they all eventually end  up telling me to either Reformat my computer or to Contact the manufacturer.

I'm asking if anybody knows any additional methods for finding a correct driver and fixing my sound, because i need some help with this one.

I've attempted in trying Driverguide but i dont know what to download from the Conexant drivers list, i tried High Definition Audio then restarted the computer and it didn't work of course, and i have a feeling there are multiple drivers i require for my sound to work. any suggestion on what specific drivers to download?

My searches tell me that is a modem...not a sound card.
Are you quite sure about this ? ?

I tried that link and downloaded the file from the link to another website but after i downloaded it i couldn't figure out what to do with the files.
Files?  There's only one file to download from the site; it's named Download_DriverDetective-6.3.1.2.exe.

Better yet, go to the source: http://www.conexant.com/support/md_driverassistance.html

As patio said, Conexant made modems, not sound cards.  Are you using 56K dialup modem?

Odd, well in my computer there is a green card that has this on it

Conexant System inc.
RD01-D850

US: CXSM502BRD01D850

and some other things that pretty much repeat the same information and right above it is my Linksys Wireless-G card, I'm pretty sure its a Conexant sound card, but it does seem that they don't make sound cards, but i have one in my computer and like i said with no change of cards in my computer my sound was working untill i reformatted it.

Oh, and soybean, i downloaded it from a link under the one that downloads driver detective and is after extracted files in a folder, and when i scan with driver programs they seem to only detect which drivers are out of date, not which drivers i don't have so they seem useless for me.

It's a modem.
Remove it if you do not need a modem.

DLoad install and run Everest Home...
Save the computer Summary as a .txt file and copy and post the info...
DON'T include any info under the De-bug line.

Right, and if you're talking about the Conexant device, it's in internal modem.

The type of card is very easy to verify. Just look at the back of the computer case where that card is installed.  Do you see speaker ports on that card or do you see a phone jack?

Your computer may be using onboard sound, not a sound card.  By onboard, I mean it's integrated into the motherboard.  Again, look inside your computer and at all the connections on back of your computer.  Where do your speakers connect on back?  Trace that connection to the inside of your computer.  Can you see that the speaker connector is on the end of an expansion card, or is it directly on the motherboard?

Your sound card may be integrated into the motherboard.  In any case you could use Everest to identify the components.  Post the results back here and we can help you locate the correct driver.
