Happy Haloween Computer Hope Forum :D:D

Anyway, my question is what actualyl do you use windows server for? i have known about windows server for a long time but not actually known what it does...

On a game i play called SAMP you can run a 'server' for that game and its just a dedicated server, so because i know about this, it makes windows servers confusing..

it would be nice if anyone has got a link to where i can learn about windows server or if someone can just explain it :D:

Windows Server is basically just another Windows operating system like XP or Vista. The big difference is the software bundled with it. Windows Server 2003 and 2008 have several "server" programs such as IIS, Active Directory, DNS, WINS, Terminal Services, Print Server, etc., etc., which desktop operating systems don't have.
That's all that is really different. Windows Server 2008 even has the same kernel that Windows 7 does.

Also a large number of default options are changed; for example, tasking options are changed to give more time to background programs and services (such as IIS and so SQL), and "eye candy" enhancements, such as Luna and Aero, are disabled.

Basically- Windows Server is designed for running Server programs; for example, web server software, and heavily trafficked game servers even.

yes they are different. Did the game ask for MySql server or SQL server 2008 express? Those are two different software systems. both are free but there are versions of both that can get expensive.

If you need the Microsoft SQL server 2008 express
http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/

If you need the MySQL server

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
