My system is a Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop and it's about 3 years old. They don't sell them any more. I recently installed a new operating system on it, XP Ultimate edition, and it worked fine. I took it apart and was very careful with it, but we all make mistakes. The BIOS doesn't start when i turn it on. No beeps no screen activity. Just a light that confirms that the power is on.

Is there any way to fix this? i can't afford a new computer.

Over looking the why for the moment. It could be a power supply issue, if you can get your hands on another PSU and plumb it in then it's a quick tell. I would try resetting the BIOS before going to the trouble though.

When you learn enough about computers you realise how little you actually know about them.

It is very possible...but i would ensure all the connections are tight and in the right places.

I know especially with laptops, the RAM slots can be a real pain when it comes to seating them properly when they want to be.
