I recently upgraded to IE 8 from IE 7 and have been having problems with my display on some forums including this one. The first window opens OK but when I open a topic the next window chops off part of my tool bar. Is there a setting or option I need to change? A driver to update? Dell Dimension DM051 Pentium 4 CPU 3.0 GHz 1 GB RAM Windows XP Media center ver 2002 SP 3
Thanks, Steve

I had attached a Word document with screen shots of the before and afters. I haven't posted an attachment before, did it display properly?

No, your attachment did not work. Did you click the Browse button and navigate to the file?

It shows at the bottom of the post as Video Problem.doc when I open the topic. Is there another way to attach it?

Try connecting the screen shots as separate image files (JPG, PNG, or whatever), rather than putting them in the Word document and attaching it.

I added two screen shots as .jpg files. How did those work? Thanks for the help, Steve

It is not consistent. It was doing it on this site earlier and now it is OK. It does it consistently on the homeshopmachinist dot net site. Maybe since it opens an additional window?
Thanks, Steve

It was fine in the link in the first post. Oh, the first post was edited and the attachment put there. A bit confusing. LOL

Your images show you're using MSN Explorer, not IE. Can you get online directly with IE?

I'm really feeling like a noob on this one. I'm using MSN to access the net, I don't even open IE. I'm not seeing where I need to change this. I opened IE and went to the internet options but I don't see it. Is it on the general tab?
Thanks, Steve

IE was already selected and ticked as you suggested. I can use IE to access the net and don't have any trouble accessing the homeshop site or any video issues. It does open another tab when I access the forum bulletin board. It seems to be the only one that does now although this forum gave me the same problem earlier with MSN but now doesn't.
Thanks, Steve

OK, I'm totally confused on this one (which is not uncommon). I've always viewed MSN as more of an AOL type of service. Until today I've never heard of an MSN browser.
MSN doesn't use IE as it's browser? That's not exactly a vote of confidence.
How do you get to MSN without a browser? Is this a dial up service?

MSN uses a shell of IE....the same ...only different

I wanted to try to delete the the MSN browser but I am not sure how. I can go into Add/Remove programs but it just lists MSN without any more detailed options. I also tried in Set Program options and Defaults to select IE as my default internet browser but the selection returns to "Use my current Web browser" as soon as I exit. I also tried that in IE tools. I am the PC admin and I also rebooted with no success. Am I missing something obvious?
Thanks, Steve

Ok, I found it in Windows components. Will deleting it change the look of my screens and tool bars? Currently when I access the net through MSN I have to use a password. If I go directly to IE I don't need a password. Will I still be able to go through the MSN portal? I have a kid at home and like to use some of the MSN parental controls. If I delete it and don't like the results, how can I put it back?
Thanks, Steve

Well I went in and uninstalled MSN Explorer. It was a learning experience. I lost all of my e-mails and shortcuts, which I should have saved before I started. I decided to reinstall it to get them back but the reinstall didn't work and locked out my account. After much time with tech support they figured out how to get my account open again but all of my stuff was still gone. I figured out how to get it back while I was waiting on hold with them - by copying it from another user profile on the computer. I still have the same occasional video problem but I can get around it by unselecting then reselecting "Show Navigation Bar". It must reload something because then I get the full screen so I can navigate. Gotta love MSN. When I get brave and have some time to kill I'll save all my stuff ditch it and use something else. Thanks for all of the help. Steve
