Yeah, Toshiba  IMO has been making solid laptops for years. I still have a Satellite Pro 440 CDX that works fine, even though I lost far  too many screws to feel safe, and my more recent L300. Qosmio is out of my price range; personally, I don't really need a mobile PC so I'd feel a lot better building a new PC if I had that kind of money :)

Regarding the link: I Don't see a touchpad... how do you control the mouse? is it "invisible" or integrated with the front panel?

It's integrated into the front panel.

I love my old Toshiba P-10, and my Qosmio, I might get one of those as well though, maybe in the new year.

As long, as they won't come up with free hard drive diagnostic program, I won't touch any Toshiba.

They have diagnostics for HDD.  Who told you they don't?

It's a portion of the TVAP.

It runs from within Windows, correct?

Yes, it does, I don't like that aspect of it, but I've also never had an issue with one of their hard disks either.  I'm sure some of them have failed, I've just never witnessed it.

So, they still don't have any tool to test hard drive.
Any hard drive tool, which works from within Windows is basically worthless.
If you can get to Windows = hard drive is fine, you don't need any tool.
If you can't get to Windows = Toshiba has no tool to see what's wrong.

Horrible tech support?
I've never encountered a problem with the support, other than the low level guys have thick accents.  I usually request a call back from a supervisor.  I've never waited more than an hour for one of those.

The lowlevel guys drive me nuts though.

I've never ever used a diagnostic program of any form.

IF chkdsk /r finds bad sectors- or notes that some sectors take a long time to return data- then I know there's a problem. Otherwise everything is chip.

I have to disagree here.
I saw cases, when chkdsk came up OK, but manufacturer diagnostic program found issues.
