Not sure why you're using the terms mounted...etc. ...
If you have a working floppy drive just put them in and open Explorer...
You'll know soon enough if the data is still there or not.

Forget the floppies.
Maybe they had an old version of
Jill of The Jungle,
Commander Keen, or
Space invaders.

when you say open explorer are you referring to internet explorer?  And if so how would that help?

I've done that thanks...when i put the floppies in on some of them i get this msg.

This disk was compressed using DriveSpace 3, which requires Windows 95.

To use this disk, you must first mount it. To mount it:

  1. Run DriveSpace by choosing Run from the Windows 95 Start menu,
     and then typing DRVSPACE.

  2. In DriveSpace, click the drive that contains this disk,
click the Advanced menu, and then click Mount.

(If this file is located on a drive other than the physical drive
that contains the disk, then the compressed drive is already mounted).

To automatically mount all available compressed drives, click the
Advanced menu, click Settings, and then check the "Automatically mount
new compressed drives" box.

IMPORTANT: To mount and use this compressed disk, you must be running
           Windows 95 and DriveSpace 3.

and on other disks it just says that the disk is not formatted and asks if i want to format it.

I know all the disks have info on it and i really want to see what is on them...Can anyone please help me out here...I know it says i must be running 95 but is there a way around that?

You can read the floppy in Windows 98.

I'll give that a try.  I think my kids computer is running 98.  Other than that or finding a puter that runs 95 and works is there anything else that can be done.  Thanks again for the help
