I have just noticed that my computer (Windows - not sure which) has Client services for Netware installed (which I haven't installed) and after some googling of it I read lots about Virtual Private Networks for remotely accessing a computer.  I went into control panel and then network connections, and there, lo and behold, is a VPN connected!  This wasn't here a week ago.  My ex-husband had access to my computer for an hour while I was out and he was babysitting.  Is it possible he has set up a system to remotely access my computer?  (He is an IT specialist by trade) If so, how much can he see and is this illegal?  I use a password for my gmail account but there wasn't one to log on to the computer.

We don't give legal advice.
Please talk to your lawyer.
But yes, he did it.
Stop using your computer, Unplug it.
Remove the network connection.

Surely, it is.
Do you have any VPN listed in Add\Remove (Programs % Features)?

I am not sure what I would be looking for.  But it was there along side my LAN connection symbol in Network Connections via the Control Panel.  I have disconnected the VPN.

Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.

Click Config... button.
Click Misc Tools button.
Click Open Uninstall Manager... button.
Click Save list... button.
Click Save.
The list will be saved as uninstall_list.txt in C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis folder.
At the same time, Notepad will open with the list displayed.
Select all text, copy, and paste in your next reply.

Thank you, but I am a bit nervous about doing this.  I don't understand enough about it all to know that it is safe to cut and paste info like this or to download this programme!  I hope you understand where I am coming from.  But thanks anyway.

bantam, we can certainly understand your reluctance to try something that you are unfamiliar with.

However Broni provides excellent support, and would not do anything to compromise your computer security, or your information.
