Windows 2000 requires logon to domain?

Hello and thank you for reading my thread.

My AMD Athalon has a 250 gig seagate drive in it, and has 500 meg of ram. The O/S is Windows 2000, service pack 3. I use it at home for personal use.

I have made this computer a single drive. It had other drives in it but I have taken them out to isolate the problem I have.

When I start up the computer, I am faced with a logon screen, that says "Logon Message" (in a box)
"The system cannot log you on because the domain MARKS250GIG is not available."

It wont accept my passwords that I thought they should be.

I actually removed all the passwords for log-on because there were no other users about for this comnputer except myself.

Can someone please direct me as to how I might get my computer running again?

I am currently trying to set up another drive to be the master and have the 250 gig as a slave.

NP....

Have old Windows 2000 OS. Can't Daughter used it and can't get logged on either. Can't get to start in safe mode. Com just freezes when I press F8 and keyboard and mouse are locked. Any what to start up in safe mode? Using a wireless HP keyboard. Is that a problem that keyboard won't energize before F8 screen?

If it's a mac keyboard it won't be a PS/2 keyboard.

Then you need to start a new Topic and provide more details than you have...

Thank you patio & BC_Programmer,for your reply and rogerwine and roborantes. Good to know Im not the only one that this has happened to. If it can be fixed this is the place to find out how. Computer hope people will try their best to help fix it. Good luck. 

I have tried a few things with AMD Athalon with the 250 Gig hard drive, from slaving it and getting my info saved, (thanks patio) to copying the HAL.DLL to it. (patio, stlbob and Salmon Trout).
I havent tried to get the repair Hal.dll yet patio. Christmas got the better of me and I havent found the CD yet.

Other times I have tried to repair something via installing the CD and going to repair, I have ended up with a new copy of XP on the drive.    ( Thats an operator error)

This drive has 4 copies of Windows XP on it and it makes it difficult to work out which one to use. Would it be possible that one of the other copies would have a HAL.dll file that I can copy and use? Would they even be the same?

(Actually I will have to start a new thread about deleting them later if I cant research an answer to that.)
