Although Google denies it I think this is a step towards a Google based mobile phone company like Sprint or Verizon. Or maybe even a Google computer aimed at businesses and college students. As popular as Google is, Microsoft has the home user market securely in their pocket. And as smart as Google is I think they know going up against Windows in the home user market isn't going to happen for a while. Open Source is good, but it's also not for the "point-and-click" crowd which makes up most of the market. If they can get college users on-board with open source then it will spread thorough everything else starting when the go into the working world. Not a bad long term plan for Google...

That's total BS. What if you have a crappy connection, or none at all?! Flash memory? How much can that max out at?

So I guess those colleges are gonna look really silly because they said their VAX-VMS was "out-dated". Connect it to an unstable dial-up internet connection, and you have PROGRESS, people!

I'm never going to trust someone else to protect and backup my files.

There are so many things wrong with this that I just don't know where to begin.

If you haven't seen the short film "Googled", now would be an excellent time.

Google has taken storage to whole new levels. "Cloud" computing is the hot new trend. If anyone is going to do it right then I would expect Google to be the ones to master it first.

It never hurts to see what the final product is before condemning or accepting it...

Not for me, I work out of town for a huge percentage of the year.  I still need access to my data when I'm in camp and many camps don't have internet.
