What are the main differences between them? if any.

Other differences are in architecture.... for example a Dual Core Intel 2.5Ghz against a Dual Core AMD Athlon 64 2.5 Ghz if tested (Benchmarked) on *similar hardware one might be slightly faster than the other -or- one might handle a specific computational task more efficiently (quickly) than the other.

*Similar and not same because AMD and Intel havent been interchangeable in motherboards since about the 80486 in which the AMD fit the same socket many years ago. Today they have specific sockets that are AMD or Intel specific. (So when planning a motherboard purchase you will want to make sure you have the correct socket type and that the board will run Dual or Quad Core support.

I have both AMD and Intel Dual Core Systems and they both run great with no performance difference, BUT if I benchmarked them I suppose I could figure out which was faster.
