Computer Hope 1 1 1
« on: December 04, 2009, 02:20:07 PM »

I happened to stumble across WhatPulse a site and application that keeps track of how far you've moved your mouse and how many key strokes you've done. What makes this page unique from other such services is that it uploads your stats to the site and allows you to compete with other members and teams.

A download to the utility (for PC/Mac/Linux) and additional information found at: http://whatpulse.org

I think I'm the only member who's continued to submit progress. But thanks for joining. I actually find the program pretty interesting as it keeps track of how many of each of the letters I type. The letter 'E' continues to be my top letter, typed over 82,215 times since last reset.

Overthehill brought up the idea again of adding a icon to user profiles like F@H. At first I didn't think it was necessary because there wasn't much participation. However, since this post has been viewed nearly 1,000 times and there does seem to be an interest I've gone with his idea and added a new WhatPulse icon for those members who're participating on the Computer Hope team.

Just in case some members of this team didn't come across it, I've started a thread in "Off Topic" looking for additional members for this team and also for the F@H team. Please feel free to jump right into this thread and add anything that you think may help. I can't help but think that if CH members knew how easy it is to join a team and to also enjoy the competition ,they probably would join. And, the bottom line is; we simply need more participants for both.

A similar message will be sent to the F@H team informing them of the thread.

No, the pages and results are probably cached so that there aren't too many concurrent database connections. They probably update after so many hours.

That sounds reasonable. Don't know what the problem is though in the case of harry48. He's been trying for months to join the team

right click the icon ,  logs/pulses/refresh , and you are updated

OR

right click the icon , program settings , and you can set how often you want to update your pulse log in the team

Is this your profile?  [Link]

When you click on the join team link on http://whatpulse.org/my/teams/, does anything happen?

When I first clicked on it, nothing happened because I am using NoScript.  After I allowed the website, it loaded a new page with a search box in it to search for a team name.

Arg, now it refuses to pulse.  It just says "The parameter is incorrect.".  Once in a while it works.

Will the program be easily uninstallable? I'm sort of a bit uneasy about the idea of a program the will track my keystrokes.  ::)

Uninstallable, yes. But the program does not in fact track your keystrokes, it only counts them. Same goes for your mouse clicks. This is just a fun(team game) that doesn't care where you've been or where you're going. It just records keystrokes and mouse movements. I've been a member for some time now (others a lot longer) and I/they do not consider it any type of threat. Had I been concerned, I certainly would not have joined the team.  WhatPulse also has a great web site that will answer all of your concerns. If this program would be a concern there is no way that it would have the number of ongoing participants that it currently has.
By the way,the CH team is currently # 4393 out of who knows how many teams with how many members? And, we've been steadily moving on up the ladder. Sure could use your help though. overthehill.
