Hi, I have recently started to have problems watching video online. I am using IE version 8. Scripting of Java applets are enabled in my internet security settings and I have also installed the latest version of the Adobe Flash player. I can watch youtube videos fine when I use the search function on the site, but when I go to a youtube user's profile and click on a video, I get an error message that says "Bad response from server". I am unable to watch videos on the BBC Sport website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/front_page/7727391.stmAlso, the MSN homepage isn't showing up properly for me. The “Video highlights from the past week” section just appears as a blank box, as does the section under “Advertising” and “ad space”. I have attached a screenshot of my current view of the page. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. [Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]

I would suggest reinstalling the Flash Player.
I would also try other browsers such as Firefox, see if you can watch videos there.

Hi, I tried reinstalling the flash player, but still no joy. Videos do not work in Firefox either.

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspxNo installation required. Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program. Go File>Save, and save it as AutoRuns.txt file to know location. You must select Text from drop-down menu as a file type: Attach the file to your next reply.

You surely have a lot of startups. I'm not sure, IF it's going to solve your issue, but we definitely have to cur them down.
Also... Please, post some computer info: - processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key) - hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
Re-run Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab and UN-check following items:
+ "Alcmtr" + "AppleSyncNotifier" + "ATICCC" + "btbb_McciTrayApp" + "btbb_wcm_McciTrayApp" + "DSLAGENTEXE" + "GSISETUP" + "High Definition Audio Property Page Shortcut" + "HP Software Update" + "HPDJ Taskbar Utility" + "IMJPMIG8.1" + "ISUSPM Startup" + "ISUSScheduler" + "iTunesHelper" + "KernelFaultCheck" + "Motive SmartBridge" + "PCMService" + "PHIME2002A" + "PHIME2002ASync" + "RealTray" + "SunJavaUpdateSched" + "Workflow" + "YBrowser" + "BT Broadband Desktop Help.lnk" + "HP Digital Imaging Monitor.lnk" + "Microsoft Office.lnk"
No wonder, your computer is choking...

Normal free space on a HDD for Windows to run properly is 15%... At 5G you are falling below that #... Time for some housekeeping.

Any advice on how to clear up some free space on my hard drive? I ran the disk defragmenter but it freed up barely anything. I have also uninstalled all the programs I don't need. Would purchasing an external hard drive help?

Eithiether that...or burn some stuff to CD/DVD's... 3 culprits that hog alot of space would be pics; movies and music.

I turned off pop-up blocker and ad blocker on my Norton Internet Antivirus and I can view webpages properly and watch videos without any problems.
By the way, is there any way of finding out what is filling up my hard drive space? I can't understand how I'm running so low.

My Norton VirusDefs folder is eating up 15.6 GB of space. Is it possible to clear this folder without leaving my computer unprotected?

There are a multitude of folders that apparently include the exact virus definitions which are getting installed to my computer through the LiveUpdate. This folder is present only for Norton 2008 and earlier versions, so it may be worth upgrading to the latest version.

I upgraded to Norton Internet Security 2010 and now have 22.5 GB of free space. What do you mean by something "lighter"?

Hi again everyone,
I'm bumping this topic because I received such tremendous help before.
I have passed this Packard Bell laptop on to my Mum, but it is running incredibly slow. This is especially noticable when running Internet Explorer.
I have attached the Autoruns output. Is there anything you can suggest to get the computer running faster? It doesn't have to be superfast, just as long as it is reasonable to work with!
Many thanks.

I would try updating to IE9, and seeing if that works
