Title: No display with EMachines T2080
Post by: Hoop2077 on December 11, 2006, 08:40:00 PM
I'm working on an EMachines T2080 here.  L7VMM board, AMD Athlon XP 2000 1.67GHz, 512MB PC2100, dual HDs, DVD, CD-RW...

On startup, nothing goes to the screen, the monitor doesn't even go from orange light to green light.  (Monitor tested and works on other machines).  I've added a video card, nothing happens.  Switched out power supplys and nothing.  Everything seems to be working, all fans are spinning, all cd drives open on command.  No recent changes were made to this machine.

Am I correct in assuming it is either the processor or motherboard?

I don't have any spare compatible boards or processors.  I figured that a bad hard drive, cd drive, or ram would not cause a blank display.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Did you disable on board video in the bios.

I'm unable to get into the bios.  The monitor doesn't do anything at all.  But it does work on other machines.

Unhook everything except the CPU/Fan, 1 stick of RAM and the video. Does it have onboard video? If so use that. Make sure all connections are secure and then try that.  Does it POST at all?

eMachines have notoriously weak power supplies that frequently take out the motherboard or more when they fail. Was there ANY difference at all when the new power supply was added? What make and model is it? Was it new?

I've switched out the power supply with a known working 300W Powmax with the same results.  The monitor doesn't display a thing.  Also switched out batteries on the motherboard.

Unhooked everything except CPU/Fan, 1 stick of RAM and the video(onboard).  All connections seem secure and clean.  Same results.

Why are you unable to get into the BIOS ? ?

Have you re-installed the OS or done a repair install on this machine ? ?

Is this a new build or one that has been working for some time ? ?

Where are my pliers ? ?

Maybe an obvious point needs mention here.  You've added a video card so you now have two monitor connectors on back of your computer, the original onboard and the card, right?  Do you have the monitor connected to the card?  If so, connect it back to the onboard VGA port and try starting up and see whether your video display is back.

Ok, I guess I'm not explaining this very well.

When I turn the computer on, I see the processor fan and the power supply fan going.  Sounds fine I guess, but nothing goes to the monitor.  You know how when your monitor is on, but the computer is off, there is an orange light on the monitor (most of them I think) and when you turn the computer on, the light goes green?  Well, this one just stays orange.  Nothing displays at all.  It has onboard video.  I've added a video card, and plugged the monitor into that, and the same problem.  I've taken the video card out, plugged into the onboard and still the same problem.  No Windows installs have been attempted yet because I can't see anything.  I've unhooked everything except the CPU and the RAM while plugged into the onboard video with the video card out.  Nothing was done prior to this mishap.  "It just happened."

Have you checked the monitor cable?
What connection does it use?
Try a different monitor on that PC - does that work?

The monitor works fine on another machine.
It is a VGA connection.
I hooked a different monitor to the computer with the same results.

Re-seat that vid card in another slot...
