Title: Belkin router/modem - cant access 192.168.2.1
Post by: fil2 on March 05, 2007, 02:37:35 PM
Hi, hopefully somebody can help me with my problem, here goes:

I have my computer running windows xp.  I currently have broadband running at 2.2mb/s my internet provider is TalkTalk.  I connect using speedtouch.

I also have a laptop which i want to be able to use the internet wherever in the house.

I went out and brought a Belkin ADSL2+ Modem with Wireless G+ MIMO router as advised my the computer shop (PC World).

When i got back, i set it all up as described by the instructions.

This is where the problem starts  :-?

It says go to my web browser (IE6) and type in the address bar 192.168.2.1 which SHOULD take me to the configuration page! however instead in comes up 'this page cannot be displayed'.

I have tried everything, searched everywhere, every message board but still no luck.  i tried the router on another pc and it worked straight away!!

I used the ipconfig and it said that all the ip addresses where as they should be.

I then tried ping 192.168.2.1 and it was successful.

I made sure the settings are on 'never dial an internet connection' and to 'automatically detect settings'

i tried resetting it.

what else can i try!!! its driving me mad and want to get it sorted, so if theres anyone out there who could help id really appreciate it.

Many thanks
Phil

Do you have any security products,  Firewall, or even Google anti spam filters running.

if you have a firewall you might have to set it to let that address pass through.if you can ping it, that does mean it is there and connected there is something going on between the system and the router.
Can you give us the details of the equipment "Belkin ADSL2+ Modem with Wireless G+ MIMO router" / and whatever you have attached to the computer end.

have you tried to do this using Firefox as a browser instead of Internet Explorer download it from here :- http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
or even updated the internet explorer to version 7 download that from here:-

Please cut and paste the output of "ipconfig /all" here.  Then the output of "ping 192.168.2.1", then the output of "telnet 192.168.2.1 80".

Ta!

You do realize that you are responding to a thread that is more than a year old?
Older if you consider that someone else posted to it incorrectly.

if you want to say: does he realy tries to hack you while thisis one year old?
then yes, its possible becouse he may have learned more about it.
and i saw this thread when i was searching for the ip adress who tried to attack my network, and it was his ip adress.

Which address are you referring to:  192.168.2.1?

That address is a "private" IP address meaning it may be used by anyone on a "private" network.  As such, it could be used by millions of people as we speak (or type).  It is not a "routable" address within the public internet.  See:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network).

It may also be the default LAN-side address of a Belkin router, also used to configure router through its web page interface.  (I'm too lazy right now to look that up.)

So in other words, LeanderWiscus, get your facts straight before opening your mouth and attacking people.

Well, we are telling you now that you are not correct.  It really doesn't matter to us what your sisters boyfriend said.

nobody know's better of computers than somebody who 'growed up with computers'. Even you don't know more than he does. And is this your bussiness? I don't think so.

Anyway my laptop is too good for those sick virusses. And I am thinking now I am loosing my time on this s* forum so it is better not to come again on it. soooo take care now, bye bye then!

Living an eastern county they can set their own standards of how things work.  Perhaps in the local domain address block. It could be in a certain geographical area  they allow everybody to share. That would work if only a few thousand people were using the regional public network as a Intranet.

Quote
Definition: The IP address 192.168.2.1 is the default for certain models of home broadband routers principally SMC and Belkin brands. This address is set by the manufacturer at the factory, but you can change it at any time using the network router's administrative console.

192.168.2.1 is a private IPv4 network address. Home routers can use it to establish the default gateway. On such routers, you can access its administrative console by pointing a Web browser to
http:// 192.168.2.1

Any brand of network router, or any computer on a local network for that matter, can be set to use 192.168.2.1. As with any IP address, however, to avoid address conflicts only one device on the network should use it.

Lol world class donkey !! 192.168.2.1 is attacking my computer !! HAHAH this one made my day !

Well going for the topic issue:

I am experiencing the same acess problem to a belkin wireless G router.
I config the router as a a switch since I cant have NATE and DHCP on. Even removing the internet acess I cant acess the default 192.168.2.1 adress.
The default gateway is the internet service provider 1 dns server and the dhcp server instead of the router.
Is there a fast res for this issue... that doesnt need to reset and reconfig the *censored* router.

Looking this over - it is not clear if he read the manual.
When setting up any router for the first time, you have to read the documentation.

In order for your computer to properly communicate with your Modem-Router, you will need to change your computer’s “TCP/IP Ethernet” settings to “Obtain an IP address automatically/Using DHCP”. This is normally the default setting in most home computers.Manually Configuring Network Adapters in Windows XP, 2000, or NT1. Click “Start”, “Settings”, and then “Control Panel”.2. Double-click on the “Network and dial-up connections” icon (Windows 2000) or the “Network Connections” icon (Windows ...

He should have a direct Ethernet cable from the PC to the router. Mothering else. The router and PC should be exclusive to each other.

It may be necessary no reset the router.
If the router comes Sopwith a CD, use it.
In Windows networking you must reset the computer whenever you make a change. Sometimes does not count when you are troubleshooting. Always.
It may be necessary to 'repair' the connection .
He may have to disable, wait, and enable the connection. This can be done at the DOS prompt. Or with network connections.

Has he tried all the above?

I get it.

Your routers is not bad.

It`s resulted from your IE surroundings changing, but seconds later under  pure ie6 and  xp sys I easely access in.
because I see the notes that the page maybe changed or deleted, It means your IE cant`t find it within current settings
or the note really happened(but how,you know the authority to change the routers is limited and I just find the problem suddenly after long time no using  )

So I suggest u should have 2 sys on your disk, the  complex one for playing everything, the pure one  for emergency.
Current techs of IE is too many to finger out one by one.
remember must the pure one.

Hi

I just set up my Belkin ADSL 2 N+ storage router. The set for LAN connection is completed successfully and I can connect to the internet and access any site.

When I try to access the modem/router through IE6 for setting up wireless with address : http://192.168.100.1/, I get "The page cannot be displayed" error.

Ping for this address works fine.

I tried resetting the modem tofactory default, go through the configuraitonall over again and I get to same issue after the set up is complted successfully.

Any help would be appreciated.

MY SISTER'S BROTHER TAUGHT ME HOW TO HACK YOU BACK! I'LL REROUTE YOUR IP (127.0.0.1) TO HACKCOMPUTERS.COM IN MY HOSTS FILE, NOW ANYTIME YOU TRY TO HACK INTO SOMEONE'S COMPUTER IT WILL SHOW UP HACKCOMPUTERS.COM & THEY WILL KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

I'm not sure but it sound to me like you do not know what you're on about !! 127.0.0.1 is a local host. Your hacking your own computer.  ::)

Secondly, switch off the Caps lock, its classed as shouting and watch the language this is a family forum.

I know I'm being mean, but I love how you seem to think that your host file will affect the whole of the world.

Also, "sister's brother"?  So...your brother then, no?

Seriously, Mod's can you please lock this thread?

As a user of the home router, you have to enter the username and password of the administrator for completing the login process.  A browser may fail to respond immediately sometimes with a few errors such as this webpage is not available. If you get such error messages, then you have to connect the router to the network and fix the technical glitch properly.

Leading home Internet providers these days provide a wide range of networking equipment like routers with the facility to support administrators accessing them through the friendly name in their web browser.  For example, happy customers of Bell Canada these days type in http://bell.ca/homehub and reach the IP Address 192.168.2.1 directly.

Wow...the thread that refuses to die.....Unreal.
Maybe you could give this thread its own special forum spot.
But what could be the title?
Maybe "World longest forgotten thread"
Or try "The 192.168.2.1 chat room"
