That's in reference to this.

0 completely disables the referrer header.
1 sends a referrer header when following a link to another page, but not when loading images on the page.
2 (the default) sends referrer header when following links and when loading images on the page

The site I linked to says that Wordpress can give problems if network.http.sendRefererHeader in Firefox was set to 0. Have you been using Wordpress "for over 2 years" in Firefox having altered this setting from default?

Tweaking your browser can be useful, even fun. But it can also have negative effects on certain websites. He is just giving a heads up to potential issues.

In which case your remarks are completely irrelevant. Do you have reading and/or comprehension issues?

I think we have now seen that a site can take action based on the referrer field, whether automatically or manually, and that the OP need not assume that he or she is being spied upon. A forum might reject an application simply because the wannabe member Googled in, irrespective of what the Google search term may have been. The link may have been provided automatically. The site may have been saying "Your application is rejected because we only accept people who came from a list of approved referrers and Google is not one of them." At this point I (a) see a whole bunch of (this) forum policy "don't go theres" opening up and also do begin to wonder just what kind of forum it was, and why the OP is worried about who might have been tracking him, but I guess we'll never know. Maybe that's just as well...

salmon as you say he will never know and will it really matter if someone is bugging him as they will never meet

its a simple question  ;) , if he puts a few of the e-mails into spam will the rest not follow to spam
