    Unknow XP Installation & Disk
    « on: May 02, 2011, 05:16:00 PM »
I know that every Dell OS Disk has its own key assigned too it or you have to enter one.  I just recently formated my Dell Dimension 2350 after the constant BSOD message.  Thing is that I have two of the same disk an during the install its not asking me for the product key that is on the side of the unit.  When I try an check what key its useing, it says that its useing the same one for both disks.

If you have the right version of XP the key will work.

You are using a Dell version of XP to install on a Dell computer that had XP and is licensed to have the Dell version of XP. Is that right?

Just install the system. If the product key is needed, it will ask. On a dell the OS can be installed again without the need to do the activate again. You have no need to know how this works. So please don't ask.

But if it does ask for the key and/or it can not activate, you may  have to consult with Dell tech support. Microsoft declines to support versions of XP that were prepared by  Dell, except for issues that affect all versions of XP.

You can call MS if you want and receive just about the same information.

I think a product key might be used more than once.
But I am not sure of that.
You can not trust Yahoo Answers.

Can i use a windows XP disc more than once using the same product key?

huh!?  I know that you can use it up around to twenty times.  Beyond that you have to call MS.

There is a provision for a company to buy just one disc and get multiple licensees. And they can use other discs if a disc had should get damaged.. The discs do not have the keys that can only be used with one individual disc. Somewhere I read that the discs are in groups. A disc will accept any key that is in its group. There could be thousands of keys in that group.
                  Does that answer your question?
Any disc from Dell will work on any product key from Dell, if the disc and product key are of the same issue.
Example: Dell sells 10,000 PCs all with Windows XP pro  and all the PCs are part of that production run and the discs and key can interchange. Even if PC model numbs are different.
