loud noise then computer shuts off............?
    « on: December 19, 2011, 11:27:14 AM »
Hello. Problem: Today morning turned comp on 1st time, LOUD fan(?) noise, got all the way to opening Interent Explorer then just shut down. 2nd try, loud noise, got to Windows startup screen, then just shut down.

Background: --For a few weeks now any online streaming video has been going super choppy.

--Yesterday opened up computer, and found massive amounts of dust. Cleaned up power supply fan and cpu fan.  After that comp worked a lot more quietly than it had in the past few years (?). I thought the comp might be slightly faster too, is that even possible from dust cleaning?

--Comp seemed to always have memory usage spikes up to 70-100%, just with internet Explorer on.

--On side of comp it says

    HP Pavilion a6228x pc

    AMD Athlon 64 x2

    Dual core procesor 5200+

---Inside comp from what I remember

    4g installed mem

    2.2g "usable"?? I dont know...?

3g being used or working or something like that I think. sorry.

Okay, that is all the stuff I know, can anybody help me please? I tried to read up on this and people say cpu fan or heat sink or actual cpu damage?

    Please help.

With the ? do you just assume it is the fan or can you tell specifically where the loud noise is coming from and can you describe the loud noise.  Hard Drives get noisy when they are about to beat the dust.

Hello, I noticed my heatsink and fan were loose (I guess after the massive dusting). I applied thermal grease and reset it properly. Then used the program SpeedFan. When I turned on internet explorer the cpu usage just spiked, nothing else running but this speedfan prog.  Also the computer seems like it is running slow. These are the results:

Iowamrs. I assumed it was the fan/cpu area, it sounded like it came from there.

After being on for 30 minutes, I did another reading and this is what it was.

Do you really mean memory usage or do you mean CPU usage?  Is that with only one tab open in IE?  What is your home page?  Does your home page use Flash? If you open IE and then wait a minute or longer, does the CPU usage eventually drop to a much lower level?

Do you have any other browsers installed?

Fan speeds don't make any sense at all.  Try www.hwinfo.com
Download & install hwinfo32 from the "blue bar" at the top.
