    I can't download anything... C:\Users\jstauffer\Downloads\
    « on: February 28, 2012, 05:28:02 PM »
Everytime I try to download something in Internet Explorer, it wants to save things to C:\Users\jstauffer\Downloads\

I have no idea what this or how I can get rid of it...  Any help would be great!

You can change where you want to save the download to any place you want to. When you receive that popup box just browse to where you want it saved.

This is adware or spyware. I believe it comes from iBryte but I haven't confirmed that. I just worked on a machine that had that problem. I have a antivirus scan running now so I don't know if it's fixed yet. I uninstalled several programs and stopped several processes that I think were related. This one is new to me so I don't know much about it. I uninstalled anything from iBryte as well as a program called iToast or something similar. I had to manually stop a couple processes with iBryte in their names, and I believe one for iToast. They didn't seem to come back after a reboot so I fired up a Sophos scan and I'm waiting for that to finish.

Is jstauffer your computer's name? If it is, then this is the way your computer is set up to receive downloads.

I'm willing to bet jstauffer is not his computer's name because my infected user had the exact same message. His pc was trying to save to jstauffer's downloads folder and there was no jstauffer anything on that machine. In addition, I have no jstauffer user in my domain. My guess is that jstauffer is a sloppy spyware/adware programmer at iBryte.

The Toast thing I mentioned earlier was actually Fliptoast and is also associated with iBryte. The Sophos scan I ran came up with an iBryte adware/spyware infection and quarantined the whole mess.
