Error "This device can perform faster if connected to USB 2.0".
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:52:19 PM »
Hi, I am using Compaq SR1930IL desktop. Win 7 32 bit.
 CPU - Intel D 2.8GHz
 RAM - 1 GB DDR2
 Motherboard - ECS RC410-M REV:1.03
 BIOS chip - CX815399 (686 AMIBIOS 1999)
 Current BIOS - AMI V3.24

My motherboard have 6 USB 2.0 ports (4 back side and 2 front). But when i insert any storage device then after some time it automatically ejects out and reinserts as if someone puled it out and pushed it in again quickly. Then one message pops out from lower-right corner of task bar saying "This device can perform faster if you connect it to 2.0 USB port". After this the R/W speed of that device goes down to 1MBps unless i physically eject it again. But all USP ports are 2.0 labeled on my CPU.

I tried following steps to solve this :
 1. To update driver online from device manager. (Result - Best driver is already installed)

 2. Uninstalled all of them. (Result-No effect)

 3. Disabled ports showing 1.1. (Result-No change)

 4. Installed XP-Profestional. (Same problem)

 5. Tried eBLU BIOS updater for ECS. (Motherboard not supported)  >:(

 6. Tried Driver Genius to update USB. (Driver is up to date)

 7. Reasambled  all components of motherboard even jumpers and CPU battery but nothing.

8. Removed my 1GB RAM and inserted my old 512MB RAM. (Still having same problem but  less)
    Motherboard operational frequency - (666MHZ - 800MHz)
    512MB RAM frequency - 666MHz
    1GB RAM frequency - 800MHz

9. Searched for BIOS in ecs website but didn't found any. Found a BIOS for RC410-M2 REV:1.X, but i afraid to flash my current BIOS with this one.

If you see any solution for my problem then please suggest me.

 Thanks for your help.

I may be in a position to learn something from your problem. I have NEVER heard of a USB port that could physically " it automatically ejects out and reinserts ". Are you sure you are describing the issue that occurs correctly? There can be a variety of reasons for a USB device not being recognized but to the best of my knowledge what you have described as taking place is not possible.truenorth

Take an example of a storage device like FlashDrive (Pen Drive). Now when i connect it to my PC then after some time (random time like 5min, 5.5min, 15min, 30min, 2hrs etc not fixed) it ejects out and again inserts (not physically but logically). During this time the device (H:/ in my case) flashes like when we press F5 or Refresh in MyComputer (Computer in Win 7). After that one popup message comes out from right side of Task bar "This device can perform faster if connected to USB 2.0 port". Now, R/W speed of that device goes down to 1MB/s (max).  :'(
I am saying it logically ejects out not physically.  :o
I hope this explains exact situation i want to say.

Highly unlikely, but you may want to check the settings in device manager. Open device manager and find the USB hub and double click it or right-click, properties. Then look for a checkbox that says something like "enable the computer to turn off this device to save power" and uncheck it.

Oh, sry. I forgot to mention that i tried these steps also. Device Manager->USB Controllers-> Then unchecked all check box saying "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power" but, no change. also unchecked "Tell me if this device can perform faster" and "don't tell me about USB errors".

I think i have problem with my RAM/RAM ports, cause when i connects my old 512MB RAM then it works fine (numbers of popup messages decreases). After then when i connects 1GB RAM then it works fine for a long time (1 day - 1.5 day). I altered the combinations of RAM(s) in the ports of Motherboard but they are identical.

I checked this link, its for update KB2529073 then i tried to download it for x86 (32 bit), it lead me to window validation code, i downloaded the genuine checker. It says this window is not supported by this version, please try newer version.
I also checked link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2416007/en-us which has exact solution for my problem. It asked me to download HotFix which contains update KB2416007-v2-x86. I installed it but i don't think it did something for me.
But thanks, cause now i know reasons for this problem "USB device intermittently disconnect and reconnect".

Did you re-boot after installing the hotfix ? ?

No, its just same as before installation of HotFix (KB2416007-v2-x86). It should solve the problem of race conditions between processors, but its not working.
