How do I get rid of TUVARO?
« on: February 07, 2014, 10:30:35 AM »
While I was fumbling around try to organize my backup, I inherited a thing called "TUVARO"  with Bing.  This thing really messes me up on line.  It consistently changes my home page and only allows me to access one website before going into a continuous loop.  I have to get off line, scan for critical malware, ( I use Malwarebytes Anti Malware  Pro) delete what I find (usually about 9 to 11 issues), and get back on line once more for the next web site.    ;D    Not only that, when I try to shut down it often goes into a "Logging Off" mode and stays there forever, until  I pull the power.  I hope that there is an easy way to get rid of this thing.   >:(
You are much appreciated..     Thank you ,

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.
*************************************************************************
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.
  • Please close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Delete or Clean.
  • Confirm each time with OK
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.
*********************************************
Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Warning! Once the scan is complete JRT will shut down your browser with NO warning.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.

•Temporarily disable your Antivirus and any Antispyware real time protection before performing a scan. Click this link to see a list of security programs that should be disabled and how to disable them.

•Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click JRT and select Run as Administrator

•The tool will open and start scanning your system.

•Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.

•On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.

•Copy and Paste the JRT.txt log into your next message.
*******************************************
Download Security Check by screen317 from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.

Link 1
Link 2

* Double-click Security Check.bat
* Follow the on-screen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
* Post the contents of that document in your next reply.

Note: If a security program requests permission from dig.exe to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Rootkit

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Rootkit and save it to your desktop.
  • Be sure to print out and follow the instructions provided on that same page for performing a scan.
  • Caution: This is a beta version so also read the disclaimer and back up all your data before using.
  • When the scan completes, click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats found and reboot the computer if prompted to do so.
  • Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
  • If there are problems with Internet access, Windows Update, Windows Firewall or other system issues, run the fixdamage tool located in the folder Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit was run from and reboot your computer.
  • Two files (mbar-log-YYYY-MM-DD, system-log.txt) will be created and saved within that same folder.
  • Copy and paste the contents of these two log files in your next reply.

DAVE:  Thank you for the comeback.
Ok, how's your computer working now?
My computer is NOT working well at all.   >:(   When I open a browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) it will allow me to access ONE web site (gmail or facebook are all I have tried) and after that it will hang up while trying to connect to  different site.     Also, after I  have opened a browser, the computer  will not shut down when I command it to do so.  It just loops in a "SHUTTING DOWN" mode.  :-\   I have to do a hard shut down (push and hold  the POWER  button).  However, if I don't try to get online and just work off line the machine seems to work fairly well.   :(  I don't understand this "TUVARO" or where it came from.     ???   It seems to be attached to "BING".    Is there any thing else that can be done?  Please don't tell me that I have to reformat and reinstall Windows.  Just did that.  What do you think?  Thanks again,       JIM

Could you please run MBAM and post the log. Did you try uninstalling TUVARO? Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and see if it's there. If it is, please uninstall it. Also, please run the ESET scan again to see if there's anything left over. Also run AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal tool again. These should remove Tuvaro. See here.

DAVE:TUVARO does not show up on the "Programs and Features" page of the "control panel".  Nor can I find it in C:\Program Files or C;\Program Files (x86).  I ran Malware bytes and JRT and ADWARE again as you suggested.  To no avail,  DTSUVARO is stil there and comes up as the home page for internet Explorer and Firefox.  It sometimes also inhibits opening up 2nd or 3rd web sites.  I am starting to run "Eset Online" now.
Here are the logs for  ADWARE, JRT, and Mawarebytes;

DAVE:  Thanks for the comeback.
Did you reboot your computer after running MBAM?
Yes I rebooted after MBAM.    I ran Eset Online again and it sowed NO Issues.   I tried to post this last night but TUVARO would not let me access Computer Hope.  It is still there this AM.  Thanks again for your patience on this.   You are much appreciated.   JIM

This infection has hijacked your browser shortcuts, so in this step we will need to manually clean them by removing the Tuvaro.com argument.

1.Search for your browser shortcut (Desktop, Taskbar or Start Menu Shortcut), then right click on it and select Properties.

To view the Properties menu for the browser shortcuts pinned to your Task Bar, right-click on the browser shortcut from the Taskbar, then right-click again on the browser icon as see in the below image. Alternatively, you can just Unpin the browser shortcut from your task bar, then you can add it back after you have removed the “tuvaro.com” argument from the original browser shortcut.

http://malwaretips.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/taskbar-shortcuts-hijack.jpg

2.In the Shortcut tab, in the Target field, remove the http://Tuvaro.com argument. Basically, there should be only the path to browser executable file. Nothing more.
These are the default shortcut path that should be in your Target box, if the Tuvaro.com argument is there, then you should remove it.

If you are using this browser:                          In the Target field you should have:
Internet Explorer                                           “C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” for Windows 32-bit OR
                                                                                                ”C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer (x86)\iexplore.exe” for Windows 64-bit
Chrome                                                          “C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe”
Firefox                                                          “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” for Windows 32-bit OR
                                                                   “C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” for Windows 64-bit

Windows 8 and Windows 10 dual boot with two SSD's
