Its easier with a bootable disc to force change password at that specific system. If it was easy to do it remotely we would all be in trouble with insecure systems. But having physical access to the system, you can change it, but remotely chances are no unless its a corporate network in which from any computer on network you can logon and ctrl+alt+delete and select to change password etc.
