Help! I have lost control of my computer.

After several weeks of enjoying Super Dave's help I am suddenly beset by a barrage of adware.
Many redirects.
A Norton progam I am unable to remove.

I am running a desktop with Windows Vista Ultimate.

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

Use this removal tool to get rid of Norton.

Download the
Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT) to your desktop.

Once downloaded please close ALL open browsers, also save any work because this may require a restart.

* Go to your desktop and double click on the 'Norton_Removal_Tool' and then click Setup.
* Once open Click Next
* Accept the license agreement and click Next
* Type in the letters/numbers that you see into the text box then click Next.
* Then click Next and the tool will start running.
* Once finished restart the PC.
* Delete the 'Norton_Removal_Tool' from your desktop.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.

Before starting AdwCleaner, close all open programs and internet browsers, then double-click on the AdwCleaner icon.



If Windows prompts you as to whether or not you wish to run AdwCleaner, please allow it to run.
When the AdwCleaner program will open, click on the Scan button as shown below.



AdwCleaner will now start to search for malicious files that may be installed on your computer.
To remove the files that were detected in the previous step, please click on the Clean button.



AdwCleaner will now prompt you to save any open files or data as the program will need to reboot the computer. Please do so and then click on the OK button. AdwCleaner will now delete all detected adware from your computer. When it is done it will display an alert that explains what PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) and Adware are. Please read through this information and then press the OK button. You will now be presented with an alert that states AdwCleaner needs to reboot your computer.
Please click on the OK button to allow AdwCleaner reboot your computer.A log will be produced. Please copy and paste this log in your next reply.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• It should update automatically if the computer is connected to the internet.
• Click on Threat Scan and click on Scan Now.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete make sure all the infections have "quarantine" selected in the Action box.
  
• Click on "Apply actions" You may be asked to Restart your computer to completely remove the infections.
  
• When disinfection is completed you can click on "Copy to Clipboard".
  
• Paste the log in you next reply (CTRL+ V)

Dave; We 'meet' again.
My computer was/is so infected I had to go to my 'other' copy of vista and copy JWRT to a flash drive and it worked well enough to take one scan and I can now use my 'prime' copy to write this.

I personally have never seen such a severe infection as this. I'll admit I am somwhat inexperienced.

I hope to get a log for you next post.  Whew!

There is much more  to be done.

jump 9.com loads it's self and takes me over with all manner of ads.
I have to manually close ads like crazy to type this.

I guess the logs didn't make it.

I can access computer hope by being persistant.

I have never seen a computer so crazy as this one. It went from being a stable and pleasant machine to a real bear in an instant.
I can't describe all the things it is doing, all without an input from me.
Even computer hope is so littered with ads I have to close more than I type to keep up.
I have run Malware Bytes several times and it returned 'no malware found.'
Jware removal has ran several times with similar results. Did you get any of those logs?
The program that deletes programs and replaces them with good ones appears sometime and takes control. I have never downloaded it.
Something called jump9.come and takes over and opens all manner of pages, then I see a redirect in the command line!

I guess you have heard all this before.
The bright side is that I have you to help me along.
The first pass with Malware Bytes made it possible for me to get on so I will repeat the steps you outlined again.
Can't get the Norton uninstaller to work...my bad?

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your DESKTOP. 
If your version of Windows defaults to you download folder you will need to copy it to your desktop.

To prevent your anti-virus application interfering with  ComboFix we need to disable it. See here for a tutorial regarding how to do so if you are unsure.

• Close any open windows and double click ComboFix.exe to run it.

Click I Agree to start the program.

ComboFix will then extract the necessary files and you will see this:



As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to  have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware  removal. This will not occur in Windows Vista and 7

It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair  mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer  have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

If you did not have it installed, you will see the prompt below. Choose YES.



Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:



Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the contents of the log (C:\ComboFix.txt).

Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running. ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may cause it to stall.

Somehow I failed to get IE totally removed

You can try removing and re-installing IE by clicking on Start Access and Defaults, Click on Add/Remove Windows Components. Do this to remove IE and then do it again to re-install it.

Dave: Finally I see a bit of light. I discovered that 'somehow' several of my computyer's settings had been changed. I changed them back.
The many flash ads have abated.
