    Frequent disconnections - please help
    « on: December 29, 2014, 06:00:53 AM »
    Dear computerhope.

So my computer and internet has been pretty good up until now, considering the few, rare ping spikes I used to get while playing games.

Although in the past few days, it seems to have gotten considerably worse. I literally can't play any games without it disconnecting. I can't join Skype calls, or anything. Although funnily enough, TeamSpeak seems to work okay, with occasional disconnects. But yeah, other than that, while writing this, I'm disconnecting from the internet every other minute. It's also worth noting (well I'm not sure if it is but I'm going to say it anyway) that whenever these disconnects happen, my wireless corsair headset disconnects, and sometimes my sky booster type thing that I use to get better internet and connect my computer to the router through ethernet, the little wireless light flashes and flickers.

If anyone could suggest some way of fixing this problem I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks, Jake.

    Questions.
How often do you run a virus scan?
How long have you had the  computer?
What games do you play on line?
Can you connect to your service using an Ethernet cable? Does that work much better?

Not often, should I possibly run a full scan?

How long have you had the  computer?

      1 Year

What games do you play on line?

League, Minecraft, Oldschool runescape, CS:GO, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and that's it

Can you connect to your service using an Ethernet cable? Does that work much better?

I am currently using some sort of booster, provided by sky, and I connect my computer to that via Ethernet.

Hope this helped ^^ I would be happy to provide any additional required information ^^

Do you mean a wireless booster?
      http://help.sky.com/articles/sky-wireless-booster-faqs
      Does that apply to you?
It is to be understood that unlicensed wireless service is not reliable. It is available for general use to help expand the use of the internet for individuals.

      For better performance you can:
      A. Use a direct Ethernet connection.
      OR
      B. Relocate your wireless booster to a better spot.
      C. Use directional antennas to reduce interference.
That is the best I can offer.  :)
