    MS WINDOWS 10 POP-UP
    « on: August 25, 2015, 06:53:43 AM »
    How can I get rid of the incredibly annoying MS square  blue pop-up asking me to register for W10?

    It started around a week ago and pops up numerous times during the day.

    MS obviously want to encourage enrolment for W10 but previously this marketing was confined to the Windows Update routine.

    I have clicked on the blue pop-up but cannot find any 'unsubscribe' or similar button.

      Thanks.

      Found KB3035583. Rt clicked to 'uninstall' and then said 'yes' to uninstall. Then received following message:

       "An error has occurred.  Not all of the updates were successfully installed" [see attached]

      So I can't uninstall KB3035583!

      What next?

      Follow the instructions in the link to delete the entries in Task Scheduler. That will remove the popup from the taskbar

        Sorry - I'm lost here! Presumably you are referring to the section starting 'If the Icon Returns' in the link you provided? But specifically, which part of that section?

        START - RUN - taskschd.msc

        Navigate to the following folder in the left pane: Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\Windows\Setup\gwx (you can list the content of the folders by clicking on the little arrow on their left);
        From there, right-click on each of the task below and select Disable;

            gwxlaunchtrayprocess;
            refreshgwxconfig;

        Close the Task Scheduler and restart your computer;

          I typed in Task Scheduler in 'Search programs and files' and have arrived at - see attachment below - which seems to follow (to some extent!) your guidance. But I can't open 'gwx' as there isn't any 'little arrow'!

          As you can see, I am definitely a rookie - so await your further assistance! I need 'step by (little) step' help!!

          Just click on the gwx folder and then in the right hand pane disable the task(s)

                There seem to be 4 files shown - see below. Do I disable ALL  of them ?

                Also, although I very much want to disable the blue MS W10 pop-up, I don't necessarily want to disable other things which might be useful!

                Will your suggestion (which I am trying to follow!) disable ONLY the W10 pop-up -- or will it ALSO 'kill' other things (which it might be helpful to keep)?

                launchtrayprocess
                refreshgwxconfig
                refreshgwxconfigandcontent
                refreshgwxcontent

                [/li]

                Thanks - will do.

                But what about my question viz:
                'Will your suggestion (which I am trying to follow!) disable ONLY the W10 pop-up -- or will it ALSO 'kill' other things (which it might be helpful to keep)?'

                We would not tell you do do anything that would cause you any problems.
