Hooking up my Epson XP200 printer to the network with a Chromebook
    « on: September 07, 2015, 10:17:55 AM »
So, the short version is that I'm trying to hook up my printer to my Acer Chromebook 15.  Chromebooks are apparently notorious for being a bit crap with printing - and I'm pretty useless with technology anyway.

Anyway, to accomplish this I need to find a way to hook up my Epson XP200 to my network.  I think.

I found these instructions via Epson:

    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?UseCookie=yes&infoType=FAQ&oid=201984&prodoid=63094160&foid=229665

The problem is that they don't give you instruction for the Chrome operating system.

Can anyone help me out here?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tom Leventhall

    Does anyone know how I'd

Do you have another computer handy running Windows that can act as a print server? If so this might help here for connecting a classic printer: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/1069693?hl=en

Short answer. It will not work.

Long answer. Use a cloud print service.

Printing with the Acer Chromebook. Chromebooks do not support printing from local printers via USB port. To print from your Chromebooks, you need to connect to the Google Cloud Print service and share a printer: Download and install Google Chrome to the computer where the printer is connected.
Yes, it is about the Acer, but the idea would apply to other Chrome book tablets.

Set Up a Classic Network-Attached Printer
Launch Google Chrome on the computer attached to the same network as the printer. ...
        Click the Menu button.
        Go to Settings.
Select Show Advanced Settings from the bottom of the screen.
Click the “Sign in to Google Print” button. ...
Tap Add Printer(s) The message will change instantly.
    I have not tried this.[

Thanks Dave, I'm gonna try that right now.

Geek, yeah, I've come across that as well, but it doesn't recognize any devices as being available on the system, so there's no "instant change".

I appreciate both the responses and I'll keep you updated if I have any luck.
