How can I Stop Pop Ups While Watching Video On-line
« on: June 13, 2016, 11:48:53 AM »
White lam  watching a video on-line, like Netflix or AMC, I get a pop up from Fire Fox  a new version is available. How can I tell it not to bother me when I an watching a video? On for that matter, how can  I tell it not to block my viewing area? It is really annoying.
Any suggestions welcome.  :)

Why not update browser to latest if thats what it is for firefox? Also as far as blocking viewing area I see that all the time at youtube in windowed play mode but it seems to go away with full screen. I also use adblock plus that removes ad videos.

I like fire fox. But I like to watch videos in Windows XP. Using Winmdows 7 or Windows 10 gives poor rendering. I don't know why. So I just booty up Windows XP when I want to watch a video.

Now in Windows XP Fire Fox already gives me problems. I have version 45.01 mad it wants me to go to 47. I fear it will destroy another part of my system. Repairing Windows XP on this computer is a real chore, so I would rather not take the risk.

(There are a number of articles about Firefox print problems.)

Presently, I can not print while Firefox is active. Rather than spend
hours troubleshooting the issue, I just close Firefox when I need to print something. Or print from Windows 7.

Will Ad block stop the Fire Fox pop ups?
Is there not some way I can tell Firefox I do not want to update for 30 days?

You can go in to tools options and then go in to "Advanced" and click on "Never check for updates (not recommended: security risk)".

There is no way to tell it how many days but if you just remember to check for an update at the end of each month it won't pop up telling you about updates.

Adblock plus is just for when you are using the browser and to cut out other ads from websites.  The update notification is coming from the browser itself.

AdBlock Plus will not stop a update notification for Firefox.

you can use about:config to disable the update options as well.

      You can set:

      app.update.auto,app.update.enabled, and app.update.silent  to false.

found from this thread, where a rather hilariously over-the-top sexist user had a similar problem.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Thanks for the link! Rather Extreme!  :o
Anyway, I did go into some options and checked off as many things that m, might in someway  apply. And now I do not get any kind of warnings.  Yes, I am browser in troubled waters,  but I fear not.  ;D

Thanks to all for the needed help.
