Internet randomly goes bad and comes back.
« on: October 04, 2016, 02:08:37 PM »
For the past few weeks the internet on my computer has randomly, with no pattern gone bad. After a little while it comes back. My Ping will shoot to anywhere between 200 and 1000, my download will go from about 22mb/s to about 18mb/s and my upload will usually stay around 4mb/s.
(Info from http://www.speedtest.net/)

I am running on windows 10. I am also running wireless on a Linksys AC1200 Wireless Network Adapter but I have bought a brand new one to see if it fixed the issue but it did not. Also it is only happening on my desktop, not my phone, mac, or two other laptops (one laptop using my old Linksys AC1200 Wireless Network Adapter). I have ran 3 full system Norton 360 scans to see if it was a virus but it found nothing. I tried using WinFix by recommendation from LM on the live chat but that didn't fix it. I also did a reset on my computer but kept the files. My BIOS is also Up-to-Date, verified for this reason specifically. I have ran a trace route in to see where the ping drops and it drops right after homeportal (I don't know if that tells anything just trying to put as much info as possible).
It happens at complete random times and lasts for random amounts of time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Have you tried a Cat5 cable connection between computer and the router and does that fix the issue?

What make/model computer are you using or specs if custom build?

We have not yet connect directly because we dont have a long enough cord, we will try it as soon as we get a cord long enough.
I have a ASRock 970 Extreme4 Mother board and here are some other specs

Im not sure what else you need, sorry if you need anything else specific please let me know.

Ok cool your system is a good one ( strong gaming spec rig ).

Had to ask because I saw once years ago a person added a USB wireless adapter to their computer and the computer was a Pentium III 800Mhz and the CPU was struggling to keep wireless adapter running with all other programs and so the CPU actually caused communication latency due to the USB wireless adapter required software running to function and the CPU had to carry the weight of the USB wireless adapter plus its other loads on the single-core and so during a ping as the CPU got busier the latency would increase and lost packets as the CPU was dropping the bowling pins in the juggling act ::)

Ah alright that makes sense. I'm checking my temps and they all seem fine, thanks for the suggestion!

Sorry that you took that differently than intended. I meant cool as in ( Thats Cool ) (Thats Awesome )... didnt suggest temp checking, but couldnt hurt to verify that your system temps are within safe operating range anyways.

How far away are you form the wireless signal?

You may be getting interference form other WiFi signals being transmitted near by.
Neighbor, business, hot spot so on so forth.

Have you tried changing the channel that the WiFi transmits on if others a transmitting on the same one that can sometime cause this.  Same thing with cordless phones, distance to and from, thickness and what the walls or what ever the signal has to pass through.

I am on the floor right above it, and it has been working perfectly fine for the past 3 years or more, just about a month ago it started acting up. I used WifiInfoView and everything looks fine. Although at the time I check it my internet is fine as well, I will look at it when my internet goes bad again, if it does. It hasn't gone bad for almost 24 hours not so I'm wondering if it fixed itself, I will give it another 48 hours and if it doesn't act up ill update the thread.

Have you tried changing the channel the WiFi signal is transmitting on?  It may take several tries?

Have you made any changes to the network setting on the system?

Have you tried any of the reset commands if so which ones?

So apparently it is putting out two WiFi signals, one stronger than the other. I just connected to the other one it is putting out and my internet went good right away. I'm going to give it a little time to see if this one acts up at all. Thank you so much if this fixed it, wouldn't have found it without your help!
