My Mic doesn't work

I just bought a new cyber acoustics Mic and it doesn't seem to work. I plugged it in correctly, I have the right sound card but I tried all these tests in my control panel and it doesn't pick up sound. There is no button on my Mic or anything like that.

My friend brought his Mic over here one time and it worked fine.

Does your mic have a button on it ?

Well, it has a switch, anyway. But, tentatively yes.

where do you have the mic plugged into ? Please tell us how the place you plugged it into is marked ?
Do your speakers work ?
Can you test the new mic on another machine, it may be defective.
Are you positive that the mic levels are not turned right down?

Exactly, what tests?  Are you using onboard sound or an add-on sound card?

Double-click the speaker icon in the system tray / check to make sure the "Microphone" in not muted.
