Booting Problem!
« on: November 22, 2004, 11:34:53 PM »
The computer has a K7SEM Socket A  Mainboard with an 1.3 gHZ AMD processor.  Regardless of the operating system I use, be it Windows 98, 2000, or XP even Linux OP Systems such as Mandrake or Xandros. My computer has the following provblem.

When the Operating systems is orignally installed everything works great. Then I start having problems with my machine locking up and rebooting.  When it shuts down and tries to reboot it does not seem to find the BIOS, CMOS.  After several  attempts it will boot, only to lock up again.  If it doesn't lock up the keyboard does not work, or the mouse.
Finally after a half hour to an hours worth of reboots it will boot and work perfect.  Does anyone have an idea what the heck is wrong with this machine?

Do you receive CMOS related errors?

By the way, you sure as *censored* don't have a 1300 Gigahertz processor (you'd be very lucky if you could scrape 4Ghz).

Anyways, this is undoubtably a hardware problem. Done anything to it recently, ie upgrades, overclocking (might explain 1300Ghz... ;D), case modding etc?

I do recieve a checksum error reset bios defualts.  My video card is a Matrox G450.  My soundcard is built into the board.  My Bios is Award Modular Bios v6.00PG.
I have two, 128 MHZ SDRAM  with a bus speed of 100 MHZ.
What I do not understand is if this problem is hardware related, why the machine functions properly after it finally starts up. That why I think it may be a virus, however I have not been able to find one.  I have used AVG, PC-cillin, Panda Online, and Norton's online scans.

And yes it is a 1.3 GHZ AMD Processor, not a 1300GHZ.
oops!
If anyone has an idea I sure appreciate it!

Ok, I removed all operating systems! I unpartitioned all hard drives. I still am having problems getting the machine to start correctly.  I have concluded that my problem is a power supply that is going bad or a motherboard problem!
My current power supply is a 300 watts. I think perhaps I need one with more watts.  So what do you experts think, do you think that I am on the right track?
