Video Mode Initialization Error
« on: September 27, 2007, 09:35:46 AM »
Hi all.  I am having trouble with an error I get each time I try to start a recently installed game.  I receive the following error:  Video mode initialization error.  Please contact your video card vendor to obtain the latest video drivers.
At risk of sounding foolish, how do I find out who my video card vendor is and where do I go to get the latest drivers?  Any help would be much apppreciate.  Thank you.   :)

Try this :

1.   Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.
2.   In the DirectX Diagnostic dialog box, click the Display or Display 1 tab.
3.   In the Device pane, note the value that is next to Approx. Total Memory, and then click Exit.
4.   If you have less than 16 megabytes (MB) of video memory installed on your video adapter, install additional video memory on your video adapter, or install a video adapter that has more video memory.

You also could try updateing your video cards drivers.....

Ok, Just did that..
Approx.Total Memory: 32.0 MB

Could there be another reason I am getting this error?

These are the requirements..
System Requirements:
OS: Windows ME/2000/XP/VISTA
CPU: 600MHz or faster Processor
RAM: 128 MB

I am using an XP that meets all the above requirements.  I think I need to update my drivers possibly? but am not sure how to go about that.   :)

First you will need to find out exactly what's in your computer.

Download, unzip, install and run Everest Home Edition
    Everest

Select Computer>Summary from the left hand screen.
Right click in the right hand screen & select Copy All
    Paste the details in here.
