Computer won't load pictures from camera

I recently posted on here because I had a virus and I had to run a few scans and whatnot and delete some stuff, so I'm thinking that is why this is happening. 
Ever since I did that, whenever I plug in my camera and turn it on to load pictures, nothing happens.  I tried going to 'My Pictures' and then clicking 'Get pictures from scanner or camera', but a message would come up saying: 'The computer cannot detect the scanner or camera.  Please make sure the device is turned on and is properly installed to the computer.'  Soo I uninstalled the program, and reinstalled in since I still have the disk..and the same thing still happens.  I don't understand why, since it always worked fine before.  I'm using Windows XP Professional.
Anyway, I'm not even sure if I'm posting this in the right forum but I didn't know where else to : )  thanks!

Is your camera listed in Device Manager?

Have you tried the software that shipped with the camera ? ?
Did you look in the Scanner and Camera Wizard in Control Panel ? ?

I can't find it listed in Device Manager.  I've had my camera for a little while so I wasn't completely sure where my disk was, but I found one that had Fujifilm on it, so I loaded it, but I don't think it was what i wanted.. because it just installed some sort of program for after i load pictures. 
I went to the Scanner and Camera wizard and went to 'Add Imaging Device' and then i selected 'Fujifilm', and the only one that came up was 'Fujifilm MX-700' and that's not the same camera as mine.. but I added it anyway but it didn't help, so I deleted it.  So I'm back to square 1.  : (

In Device Manager do you anything listed under "Other/unknown devices", anything with yellow exclamation/question mark?
What is your camera exact model?

My camera is Fujifilm Finepix A600. 
There's nothing under 'other/unknown devices' BUT i just found something under disk drives, after i plugged in my camera, that is called 'Fujifilm USB-Driveunit USB Device' if that helps any?

Must be it. Any errors (yellow exclamation/question mark) there?. What is your Fuji camera model?

Forgot to mention jade...check the read me file first to see if the camera is supposed to be hooked up BEFORE or AFTER the software installation...
This makes a difference...

anywayy, i installed that driver but when i turn on my camera nothing happens, again.  and apparently it should work? : S

How to install the USB drivers?

1).      Double-click  "Setup.exe" on the " FinePix_USB" folder.

2).      One of the following two message boxes will appear when this setup completes.

    a). If this message box appears, click on "OK" and repeat step 1.                 

                                                               

      b). If this message box appears, click on "OK" button and proceed to number 3.   

                                                 

3).     Close all windows and connect the USB cable to the computer and camera.  Insert a xD-Picture card or smartmedia card with photos and power on the camera to "Playback" for "USB" downloading.   Refer to owner's manual and/or Software Quick Start Guide for detailed instructions for USB connection.

If not remove any references to the camera in Add/Remove programs and remove the device in Device Manager and power down and unplug the camera and start again...

i did it all over again.  still nothing comes up : (   when i turn on the camera when it's connected to the computer it makes the little sound that means it connects, and after i uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, and connected the USB and turned on the camera a little balloon came up that said 'new hardware found' and something about it being ready to be used.  so i don't understand why it won't work : S
