    Outlook Express freezes when I click on hyperlink

    I"m hoping it's okay to post this here.  I recently acquired a refurbished Dell Optiplex GX260, XP pro.  Everything else is fine, but when I click on a hyperlink  in an email the computer freezes.  Has anyone had this problem?

    Compact your messages and see whether that solves the problem.  To compact, go to Tools, Options, Maintenance, and click on Clean Up Now.  Then, click on Compact and let OE run this procedure.  Do not interrupt this procedure.

      If you go to Control Panel (classic view) and select Internet Options, Programs (tab), what program does it show for E-mail?

        Visit Windows Update to downlaod and install the latest "high-priority" updates...

          Try this:

          1.  Click on Start/Run

          2.  Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll

          3.  Click the OK button.

          4.  You should then see a dialog box telling you the procedure was completed.

          5.  Open Internet Explorer and Click Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/ then click the Reset button.

          6.  Check to see if the web links work in Outlook Express

            Sorry I am so dumb about this, but do you mean that a box will appear with "reset" in it, or is there a reset button on the computer itself?

              I got this message:  Windows cannot find regsvr32urlmon.dll. Make sure you typed the name correctly then try again". Same thing when I tried again.

              You left out a space:  regsvr32 urlmon.dll

                I know you are going to lose your patience, and I can't blame you for it. This time it said " DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded". I went  to IE, tools, internet options, advanced---but no where in the dialog box can I find a reset button.  I must be going blind.

                Depends on the browser version...

                What version of Internet Explorer are you using?  I was assuming Internet Explorer 7...since that's the latest release from Microsoft.

                You did say you updated...correct?

                  I'm sorry----I just got  this refurbished computer about 3 weeks ago and I assumed it had IE 7. I just checked and it has IE 6. But I have gone to Windows update and downloaded everything listed, plus now have automatic updates turned, so I thought I was in the clear with all that.
