Help! My new customized computer won't boot up!
    « on: June 12, 2008, 09:30:29 PM »
I just received a customized computer and at first it worked fine.  Then, after I copied my files from my old computer from an external hard drive onto the new one, it crashed.  Now, it won't boot at all.  I can only get it to power up by using the on/off switch on the back and it'll run about 2 seconds and die.  Nothing.  Here are some of the specs:
ECS GeForce 7050SM-M V2.0 Motherboard, AMD Phenom 9850 AM2+Quad-Core CPU, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 PC300 Dual-Channel RAM Memory, 500 GB 7200RPM SATA2 Hard drive, 2 DVD drives, 1 floppy disk, nVidia GeForce 8600GT 1 BG DDR2 PCI Express Video Card.  OS is Windows XP Home Edition.  I've tried running it with the Windows installation disk in the CD-Rom drive and I went to the Microsoft website and downloaded onto floppy disk their bootup program.  Nothing worked.  Help!!  Thanks.

Did you just buy it...or was it given to you?

    Curious...for warranty purposes, that is.

What kind of files did you copy?

Did you try to copy a second copy of an operating system onto the new computer?

Some programs like Photoshop 3 and other software.  Photos.  Music. Documents. I don't know how to copy a second copy of an operating system onto it because it won't boot.  How do I do that?

And, I bought the stupid thing!

If you only transferred some programs and files...it should still boot up.

Now if you bought it...and it's still under warranty...why not take it back to where you purchased it from...or call them and explain the situation.

It appears you have done nothing wrong...as far as I can tell.  Sounds like a hardware failure.

      Is it still under warranty?

My apologies.  You do not want to put another copy of an operating system on an external drive!  I didn't mean to make you think that.  I only asked because some people think you have to have it.  You're fine.

Nope.  I've emailed the folks I bought it from to find out what they're going to do about it.  We'll see.  Thanks for asking.

I wouldn't advise someone with computer problems to install Vista as a solution!

(That's not a knock against Vista so much as the idea that if it won't boot at all, it's probably not an operating system problem.)

Some programs like Photoshop 3 and other software.

After you get your startup problem solved, please be advised that you can't just copy a windows program and have it work. You'll nee to re-install the program - just the way you did on your old computer.

              Good luck!

By the looks of it could be a power supply problem
