    Problems after formatting
    « on: August 25, 2008, 06:28:37 AM »
    Hello,
I am not an IT specialist, I am just a layman who has been looking for answers to my questions for 7 days now and could not find anything what would really help. So here is my story:
My laptop underwent formatting because I needed to get rid of some not useful things and my security system was broken as well. So it was done and operation system XP Prof, version 5.1.2600, Service Pack 3.0 was installed. Everything was fine, just the person who did this for me could not get my sound back. He tried, I tried, but with no success. The system says there is Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device working properly, but when I go to control panel>Sounds and audio devices>Audio>Sound playback the default device is modem#0 live playback and I cannot change it. I was looking for drivers, I tried Hardware Update Wizard, but everything shows fine, except for not having sound  :-[
But the problem does not finish here. It seemed that it is the only one, but today when I tried to install Microsoft Office, my lovely laptop did not show the icon for DVD drive and it looks it doesn't know it has one. The thing is, yesterday it showed one and could read my CDs or DVDs (without sound, of course) but at least I could see that icon in My Computer. Today, it has gone..I have no clue what to do, I just hope somebody can help, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaseeeeeeeee.
Here are details of my laptop:
    Tulip Computers
    System model: 4xx Series
    BIOS Version: Phoenix 4.06
    Ms Windows XP Prof
    Service Pack 3.0
    RAM capacity 512 MB
    Sound card: Microsoft
    Model: Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
    Driver: modemcsa.sys
I am not an expert so excuse any mistakes or other faux pax

I suggest going to your laptop's manufacturer's website and looking for the exact laptop model.
Then head over to Downloads and Drivers and download the appropriate drives for the sound.
See if that works at all.

Thanks, I just cannot find anything like laptop's manufacturer website. There are some links, but they do not lead where I need.

Tulip Computers......I can't find anything on that.  ???

You said it's a laptop. Is that who made it? (like Dell or Lenovo, ect....)
Also, on the laptop somewhere, it should say its model number.

I found out, that the company has recently been renamed to Nedfield and they are supposed to make Tulip things. This is the info from the laptop cover:
            Typ: Tulip STD/BTO System
            Name:Tulip MOtion LIne O 7000
            Assembled by Tulip (Nedfield nowadays)
and there is only this number referring to model: M430E
            Thanks for patience

                Sound Card: microsoft
                Model: Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
                Driver: modemcsa.sys

                Try this.

                Go here and download Everest:
                http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

When you install it, run it and click Computer and then Summary.
In the menu, go to Report --> Quick Summary Report.
Save it as a text file and paste it in your next post. Don't copy anything below Debug - PCI
