Anyone use Windows XP Media Center Edition?

(1/1)

Hoping someone familiar with Windows XP MCE can help...

I'm looking to buy a new desktop that has everything I want, BUT... it comes preloaded with Windows XP MCE -- which I'm not at all familiar with.  So, I did some searching online and through Microsoft's site, but couldn't find answers to two specific questions that I had.

1. I keep reading things like "the only difference between Windows XP Pro and XP MCE is that with MCE you cannot connect to a corporate domain." I've also read complicated stuff about MCE and wireless networking. What I want to know is: Can I still use my LinkSys wireless card to connect an XP MCE machine to my wireless router (which is connected to the internet via a cable modem)?

2. If for some reason I just don't like Windows XP MCE, can I just re-format the drives and install a copy of XP Pro? I mean, I know I can, but can anyone foresee any complications that I might encounter, perhaps having to do with XP Pro support for a TV tuner or other things which would come standard with a "media center" PC?

Thanks for any help or advice you could offer.

Sincerely,

~ Ryan S.
