hi. i think i ahve the sam problem as this guy...:)

and i tried everything on the cmd prompt for my laptop, and i tried to install and run the said program - winsockfix but nothing helped. btw, the messengers (yahoo and msn are allw orking. it's just the internet explorer....) i am conencted to the wifi /internet)

i think it's just a waste of space if i started a new topic right away without asking for permission.

I don't know how it works in your country, but in our country nothing works without: IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, preferred DNS server, Alternate DNS server.
Without this to us works only ADSL connection.

    I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

      exactly. Download winsockfix from a different computer and use removable media (floppy, USB drive, CD-Recordable, etc) to transfer it to the computer that needs it.
      I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

        I went to cmd and typed in ipconfig/ flushdns
        and it said:"the requested operation requires elevation"

        1) In the future please start a new thread with any questions you may have
        2) Open the command prompt as administrator (right-click on the command window shortcut and "run as admin") and try again.

            I had been working on my son's computer for days cleaning viruses and malware. Finally clean but then couldn't connect to internet. Tried everything. Found this string on the web and did the winsock fix. It worked!!  Broni - thank you very much!!! :) More hugs and kisses for you!!
