How come .mp3 files won't go on my iPod?
« on: April 19, 2009, 09:35:19 AM »
Everytime I try to put .mp3 files on my ipod, it says they cannot be played since my iPod doesn't support them. This just started happening about 2 months ago.
I have a 2nd generation iPod if thats any help.. Thanks.

Not all mp3 is the same. Lots of variables. Use a goo sound editor or converter to change the MP3 to a mp3 that will work.
Here s just one of many, many many sites that have free or trial converters
www.nch.com.au/switch/
Or just Google MP3 converters.

How do you put them on your ipod?

Itunes converts most files to a special format, so iTunes is working correctly or your using another program and you need to convert the songs .M4a

Unless he's doing it the old fashioned way of just regular drap and drop in Win Explorer.
If you dont know DOS, you dont know Windows...

Thats why Bill Gates created the Windows NT Family.

If you are using iTunes, right click on the song and click 'Convert to AAC' or 'Create AAC version.'

That will convert the song into a format your iPod should be able to play.

All MP3 encoders aren't the same, so the one that was used to make that MP3 might not have created a final product that works on iPod.
Don't forget to give thanks if I was able to help ya! Please?

          This is incorrect.

.MP4 files are the native codec used on the iPod.  However, iPods are fully capable of playing mp3's.

The other posters are probably correct in that the program that converted these to mp3's probably converted them in a funky manner.

If the songs will play in itunes at all, try the "convert to aac" option as suggested.
