    « on: May 18, 2009, 01:20:10 PM »
    Hello everyone!

    This was done on Friday 15 may;
    i cannot connect to the Internet.
    I set it up as I usually do,
    Did an IP search all was Ok
    showed ethernet adapter local  area connection 5
    my Ip address was Ok; subnet mask was Ok DHCP was Ok.
    Did a ping got back right away, 4 packets sent and received.
    Reset TCP/IP ; Reset WINSOCK
    exchanged e-mail with my ISP all day long on Saturday,
    no help there either.Their connection is Ok.
    can someone please help?
    thanks in advance

    What did you use to reinstall Windows?
    Any missing drivers in Device Manager?

      Hello Bruni!
      thanks for your answer.
       Replacing the drive and setting
      up Windows, was all done at the shop;
      I have no idea how it was done.
      I'v checked device manager, there
      is no problem there.
      regards

      Not sure i get it....are you saying you can connect with your ISP to check mail (exchanged e-mail with my ISP all day long on Saturday,)...but you are unable to use your browser ? ?
      If so something is not setup properly.

        Hi Patio!
        thanks for taking the time to send me an answer.
        You're mistaken. I never mentioned my browser.
        I cannot connect to the Internet, with my XP
        Computer, on which a new hard disc was installed.
        I connected to the internet with another Computer,
        (the one I'm using now)
        so I could work with my ISP.And now with
        Computer Hope.
        best regards

        I'm confused thouroughly now...but that doesn't take much.
        If the XP install was done at the shop take the machine back and tell them to finish the job...either they didn't install all the necessary drivers or missed some small detail.
        Don't leave the shop until they can connect to the web with your machine.

        P.S. This should be Free of Charge since you paid them to fix the machine...
        Best of Luck.

          Hello Patio!
          I could just see you marching into the shop,
          and slamming this thing on the counter;
          You've brighten my day!!
          yes I know this is what has to be done;
          I called on Saturday morning, to speak to
          the Manager, I was told he was with a customer.
          I left my name and no with the person who
          answered the Phone.
          still waiting!
          I guess he is still, with the Customer
          Thank you Patio
          take care

          Just remember the squeaky wheel get's the grease...
          Be persistent but not combative.

          Hopefully they do what's right.

            Hello Patio!
            Nice of you to think of me;
            well I did not actually take the Computer back.
            but I wrote the manager;
            He is insisting it is an ISP problem;
            no matter what proof I bring  up;
            That the only thing new, is what he put in there;
            Right now we are at a deadlock;
            at this moment I am using the same service,
            and it is working very well.
            so that alone is proof that my ISP is not at fault.
            as you say, we can only hope they do the rightt thing
            best regards

            Did you inquire whether he can get online at the Shop ? ?
            He should be able to and show you it works when you pick it up...

              Hello Patio!
              funny you should ask.
              because he was able to get on line at his shop,
              and he does not miss a beat, to point this out to me.
              If he is right it means I'm wrong; then
              where do I go now.He got it working,
              and my ISP is also working.
              something is wrong I  wish I know what is.
              I only know I must get this solved.
              It's set up correctly.
              I don't know where to turn
              thanks for the wakeup call!
              take care

              Give us more details on how you connect to the internet on the other machine and what hardware is involved...wireless...modem...router etc.
              Then we can go from there.

                Hello Patio!
                Here goes: My service is "ADSL"
                I have an ADSL modem The modem is
                connected to a switch; On the switch two
                Computers are connected. One( I'm on now)
                is a win98SE which I hardly uses;
                the second is WindowsXPmediacenter edition
                (this is the one I'm trying to connect.)
                No other hardware is necessary;
                the actual setup differs between the two Computers.
                On win98se it is enterNet 300
                on XPmediacenter its Ethernet
                thank you Patio

                Not sure what type of switch you mention but try disconnecting the Win98 machine and hooking up the new machine to that connection ...

                  Hello Patio
                  A switch is like a router;
                  I will do as you ask,but it means,
                  I would have to put the win98 on
                  again, or I won't be able to e-mail you.
                  what would you like me to check, when  I do this?
                  regards
