Ran McAfee Stinger virus remover , now winlogon.exe is missing
« on: December 07, 2009, 12:03:21 PM »
I have had a horrible virus on my computer for 2 weeks now.  Last Friday I ran the McAfee Stinger virus remover as nothing else would seem to kill it.  It looks like it had corrupted the boot files and so everytime I rebooted the computer it just started all over.  Stinger scanned the boot files and killed 4 Trojans there, but now I can't get the PC to boot up to the desktop.  It flashes my background, goes back to welcome screen, if I click owner icon it flashes back to my background, then immediately back to welcome and says logging off.  Other advice has indicated that the winlogon.exe was corrupted and therefore cleaned when Stinger was run.  I can't seem to find a way to get winlogon.exe back.  Biggest problem, I have no back up or system restore disk, I DO HAVE the original Windows XP disk, can I get if form that disk????  Someone please help me   :-[

JHead, try re-booting with the Windows disk in. You may have to modify the BIOS to boot from the disk first and then choose repair.
Windows 8 and Windows 10 dual boot with two SSD's
