Help! My system is infected by 'System Security 2009'
    « on: June 22, 2009, 03:52:52 PM »
    I am using XP2.
I have installed Avg free 8.0 and do updates daily.

2 hours back some popups appeard frequently that tells 'your computer is infected'.
It will show some online scanings and tell that there are several malwares in my computer.
I tried to remove it by doing an online scan at http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html, but it failed.
After some time the system automatically restarted.

Then also so many popups came and after some time again restarted.

(I am posting this before the system restarts).

After restarting several popups were coming with showing a file scaning.
After scaning it tell that my computer is infected.

I can not open notepad, word or MS Outlook Express.

In the start programs a new program named 'System Security 2009' is installed.

    (I am saving this)

I tried to open 'Add & Remove' in control panel to remove this , but I couldn't.
A popup in system tray says, 'Warning! Application can not be executed. The file rundll32.exe is infected. Please activate your anti-virus software!

In system tray only clock is seen. No AVG or many other programs installed.

When I clicked on the support icon of 'System Security 2009' in start, it leaded to www.supportnetcenter.com.
A window is frequently appearing with address http://track.oainternetservices.com/doIn?id=503760&trackId=General&storeId=500014 and that page tells 'Forbidden'.

Before shutting down, the blue desktop says, 'A problem has been detected and windows is shutting down. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: NTFS.SYS'

After restart, on desktop it is written in big red letters, 'Warning! You are in danger! Your computer is infected with spyware! ---- ------ ------ '.

Please help me to remove this virus(?)

Please follow the instructions from this link: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html

If you have done those, it will be easier for a malware specialist to help you with your problem.  ;D

I read the thread http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html, but I can't install SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and HijackThis.

While installing them, a popup comes from system tray telling, "Warning! Application can not be executed. The file xxxxx.exe is infected. Please activate your anti-virus software!"

      What I have to do?

Try install them in safe mode ..... rename them if you have to.

As per instruction of 'Karnac' , installed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in safe mode and scanned.
15 infections were found and removed them and restarted the system.

          WONDERFUL!!!

Now my system is in the former condition!

Thank God and also to Karnac & 2x3i5x and especially to Computerhope.com Forum.

Super !......... blackgold,  I would encourage you to continue the other scans and post your remaining log files for a specialist to review. That is a nasty piece of rogue software and I expect you have even more infections....best to be sure...you don't want them returning on a reboot......

and once you are sure (perhaps with a malware specialist's approval) that your pc is free from malware, I would suggest you make a system restore point just in case you need it  :)

I hope you have a decent firewall installed! Disable windows firewall (it's no good) and install a different one, I use commodo firewall, it's free and it's really good!  :)
