    NTLDR MISSING ACCESS DENIED
    « on: September 05, 2009, 09:08:28 PM »
HP Compaq desktop SR1925AN running XP media centre sp3
Original problem is NTDLR missing, can't open safe mode using F8 so have gone to xp boot Cd an can get to reepair windows. During repair, at the command prompt I ask it to copy the following

    copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
    access denied
    copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c
    access denied

I have also tried the drive names d and h but still get acccess denied message.

can anyone help with the acces denied problem?
    Thanks

    T.C.

at the prompt type:   set AllowAllPaths  = true   (space after "set")

      press enter

then try  using the copy command again..

        Thanks for the replies.

Backup is pretty much up to date to answer the first q.

For the 2nd reply, I have followed instruction adn get the following message

"The SET command is currently disabled. The SET command is an optional REcovery Console command that can only be enabled by using the Security Configuration and Analysis Snap-in."

        Any ideas?

That makes sense, I thought it was worth a try..

        try typing:   fixboot c:

that will write a new ntldr file to the active partition...

edit: do you type a password when you log on to your computer?

          Thanks for your esponse.
          oK I typed fixboot c:
asked if wanted to write new boot sector to partition c:? response Y
The file system on the start up partition is NTFS
          successful

Then I tried the copy command again and still access denied.

There are 3 accounts on that computer, at least one has a password (kids!!) but not the one I use.

you don't have to use the copy command if fixboot C: was successful...

Take the disk out and try booting your computer, now

When you enter into repair mode, are you entering the administrator password?

no, just pressing enter. Don't know a password, and only seems to have space for 1 character.

Another piece of info that  I have left out that may be vital, I'm not sure is that the recovery disks that i made for that machine wont work, goes to a blue screen error when it trys to boot and run recovery from it. So am using an Hp compaq xp os disk but from a Compaq dx2250

                OK, let's try another approach...

Does the computer you are trying to fix have a floppy drive?

Is it the same version of XP? (Home edition, professional, etc...)

As far as I know it doesn't matter what version you're using, as long as it is not a Repair disk for Windows 2000 it should work

Do you have a floppy drive in the computer you're trying to fix, or access to a USB floppy drive?
