When installing a new hard drive, does it matter if jumpers are assigned?

Question:

When installing a new hard drive, does it matter if jumpers are assigned?

Answer:

Yes, this is very important that this is done for IDE hard drives. If not properly done, your computer may not boot and/or the hard drive will not be able to be setup properly within CMOS.

Ensure that if more than one device is on an IDE port, that one device is set to master and the other is set to slave.

Some jumper settings can be found on our hard disk drive specifications page.
