The file 'jdbmgr.exe' is a file found on Microsoft Windows95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, it is the Microsoft debugger registrar for Java that is installed each time Microsoft Windows is installed on the computer.

This file allows Java applets and/or software that utilizes Java to function properly with the Microsoft Windows operating systems.

This file is commonly mistaken for a computer virus (commonly the teddy bear virus) because of hoax e-mails. There are various e-mails being distributed through the Internet explaining that this file is a computer virus. While it is possible for this file to become infected with a computer virus, it is not recommended that the file be manually deleted by a user. If you receive an e-mail about this virus, delete the e-mail and do not forward it to co-workers, friends, or family because it is a hoax.

If you believe that this file is infected with a computer virus, update your virus software and scan the computer to determine if the computer is infected. If the virus protection program detects that the file is infected with a computer virus it should be able to clean the file for you.

If you have already mistakenly deleted this file, follow the below recommendations:

Windows 95 and Windows 98 users:

Reinstall or install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later.

Windows NT users:

Reinstall the latest Microsoft Windows NT service pack.

Windows ME users:

The Microsoft Windows ME file protection feature should recover the file automatically.

Windows 2000 or XP users:

Utilize the Microsoft Windows 2000 Windows File Protection feature by running the below commands at the command prompt.

  1. Get to a MS-DOS prompt by booting a Windows 2000 boot diskette or CD.
  2. At the MS-DOS prompt, type "c:" to get to the C:\> prompt.
  3. At the C:\> prompt, type "cd\windows\system32" to get to the Windows\System32 directory.
  4. Once at this directory, type sfc /scannow to scan all system files and replace those files with the Microsoft version of the files.

Reinstall the latest Microsoft Windows 2000 service pack (if Windows 2000).
