How to view the date in Microsoft Windows

Clock and calendar

In Windows 7 through Windows 11, the date and time are displayed in the Windows notification area. Before Windows 7, only the time is displayed, and the date is hidden. To view the date in these older versions of Windows, hover your mouse cursor over the time in the Windows notification area. A balloon pop-up appears that displays the date.

Alternate method

In Windows 10 and earlier versions, click or double-click the time to open the Date/Time Properties window, displaying the date, time, and calendar.

In Windows 11, clicking the date and time opens a calendar for the current month, highlighting the current date.

Can I change how the date and time are displayed?

Users who want to change how Microsoft Windows displays the time and date need to download a third-party program. The default installation of Windows does not provide any tools to change the date and time appearance.
