Why can I not access a web page or chat at school or work?

There could be several reasons why you may be unable to access certain web pages, such as Facebook, YouTube, Netflix, or chat while at school and work. Often it relates to the security settings and access control your school or work administration has setup on the Network. Certain browsers and websites are restricted, locked, or otherwise blocked by network administrators for being potential threats for malicious activity.

Computer Hope does not assist users in bypassing or disabling firewalls, unblocking security software, access controls, or unlocking any other security in place at your school or work. If you're having difficulty accessing a particular website, blog, chat room, e-mail client, or service on the Internet contact your work or school administrator for assistance.

Often these security measures are in place to help protect the employer or school from improper use of their network. Circumventing them is a violation of their rules and should not be attempted.
