Why can I not ping microsoft.com, amazon.com, or other site?

Question:

Why can I not ping microsoft.com, amazon.com, or other site?

Answer:

Some popular sites such as: amazon.com, microsoft.com, slashdot.org, and other sites that have had DoS attacks in the past may disable ICMP on their servers or setup other network settings that prevent a ping request be received and/or responded to. Because of this when pinging these domain names or their associated IP addresses you'll receive a "Request timed out." or get a "100% packet loss."

This is normal behavior for these sites and there is nothing that can be done to get around it. However, if you're getting no response back from any website, e.g. computerhope.com or google.com you may be experiencing issues with your network. See our network help page for additional help and information on troubleshooting your network.
