How do I run a program as administrator in Windows Vista?

Question:

How do I run a program as administrator in Windows Vista?

Answer:

Windows Vista introduced UAC, which helps protect your computer by not allowing any program to have administrative rights unless properly granted. In some situations it may be necessary to run a program as administrator in order for that program to run or install properly or have all the capabilities that it needs. To run a program as administrator follow the below steps.

Note: You must be logged into an account with administrative privileges in order to follow the below steps.

Run a program as Administrator

  1. Right-click the program or shortcut you wish to run as administrator and choose the option Run as administrator
  2. Next, click Continue once prompted for your permission.
